Southport’s Co-Captain Jacob Dawson was the star of the show with 48 disposals and 12 clearances, in the gritty 15.12 (102) to 9.8 (62) win. 

The Sharks started well, but the Lions slowly got themselves back into the contest and hit the front in the third quarter. 

Despite trailing by four points at three quarter time, the Sharks did not panic and kicked away in the last quarter with eight goals to one. 

Southport Coach Steve Daniel said, “We needed to respond after our disappointing loss to the Giants last week.” 

“I’ll be the first to admit it wasn’t the prettiest win, but we got the result we needed, so we have to be pleased with that.” 

“I’m really proud of our last quarter. The game was there to be won at three quarter time and the boys stood up.” 

This week, Southport have the bye before heading to Melbourne to take on Williamstown on Sunday at 12:05pm at DSV Stadium.
