The Southport Sharks have won their third game in a row, defeating Geelong by 44 points at GMHBA Stadium on Sunday.

Southport did the damage in the first and last quarters, winning 16.12 (108) to 10.4 (64).

Geelong outscored the Sharks in the second quarter, and only lost the third quarter by two points.

After the game, Southport Coach Steve Daniel said, “It was great to come home with the four points and be at the end of Round 7 with four wins and three losses.”

“Geelong are a well coached team, so despite them only having 8 AFL listed players playing I knew it was going to be a good challenge.”

“I was a bit frustrated that the Cats were able to score goals late in the second and third quarter, because other than those periods of the game, I thought we were dominant.”

Southport won the Inside 50s (63 to 33), Clearances (55 to 36) and Disposals (349 to 288).

Brayden Crossley was the Sharks’ best for his marking around the ground, 11 tackles and 57 hit outs.

Fellow big man Fraser Thurlow, who leads the Frosty Miller Medal (VFL Leading Goalkicker) was also good with four goals.

Boyd Woodcock continued his great form with 25 disposals and three goals, while Jacob Dawson’s 33 disposals and seven tackles played a major part in the clearance domination.

Down back, Zach Molloy and Daniel Charlesworth were virtually impassable.

This week the Southport Sharks play the Gold Coast Suns for the “Mackenzie Cup” on Saturday at 12:05pm at Fankhauser Reserve.
