The Southport Sharks would like to congratulate Ben Jepson who has officially been added to the Gold Coast Suns AFL List after training with them over the pre-season supplemental selection period.
Jepson joined Southport ahead of the 2024 VFL season after winning Coburg’s best and fairest in 2023.
In his 22 matches for the Sharks last season, he averaged 25 disposals, six marks and two tackles in defence, and was runner-up in the Sharks best and fairest.
Jepson was also named in the 2024 VFL Team of the Year and played in the state game against the SANFL in April, last year.
Southport’s General Manager of Football Operations, Jarrod Field, said, “We are really happy for Ben. He has worked so hard for this opportunity and thoroughly deserves it.”
“We strive to be a pathway for players who have missed out on getting drafted as an 18-year-old but still have the dream of making the AFL.”
“Ben moved up from Melbourne in pursuit of that dream. After just one year in our VFL program, he has achieved his goal by signing with the Suns.”
“Although, we will miss having him play for us this year, we wish him all the best and hope to see him make his AFL debut soon.”
