Southport v Williamstown Round 6 Match Recap

Southport Sharks suffered their first loss of the VFL season in a three-point thriller against Williamstown at DSV Stadium.

Southport are no longer undefeated this season after going down to Williamstown by three points on Saturday Afternoon at DSV Stadium.

The 16.12 (108) to 15.15 (105) loss, means the Sharks still haven’t won at DSV Stadium after three encounters there.

It was looking like the Sharks were going to break the drought leading by a game high 21 points late in the last quarter.

However, the Seagulls stormed home with four unanswered goals to win the game.

After the match, Southport Coach Matt Primus said, “We got a lot right today, but we weren’t quite good enough in the end.”

“Williamstown took some risks late in the game, because we were ahead. Unfortunately, we lost composure and couldn’t ice the game.”

“Despite the result, I am still proud of our players effort, and I think we got a lot of learnings out of it. We will move on pretty quickly and look to get better.”

Next week, Southport host Port Melbourne at Fankhauser Reserve on Saturday 17 March at 12:05pm.
