Southport v Maroochydore Round 7 Match Recap

Southport surged to a 58-point win over Maroochydore in a wet-weather masterclass on the Sunshine Coast in Round 7.

Southport defeated Maroochydore by 58 points, winning 9.16 (70) to 2.0 (12) in extremely wet conditions.

The Sharks kicked two goals in every term except for the last quarter, when they kicked three majors, whereas the Roos kicked a goal in the first and third quarters.

Georja Davies and Rianna Schipp who came back into the side this week impressed as did Maighan Fogas in the forward line.

After the game Southport Coach Matt Lappin said, “The girls embraced the conditions. It was tough to score, but the longer the game went, the better we played as we got more used to playing in that weather.”

“In the end, it was a positive experience for the group, we got the job done and we had fun doing it which was important.”

Next week, Southport host Moreton Bay at Fankhauser Reserve on Saturday 7 June at 3pm.

Unfortunately, the Reserves game did not go ahead due to Maroochydore not being able to field a team this week. Next week, Southport host Moreton Bay at Fankhauser Reserve on Saturday 7 June at 1pm.
