Southport v Sandringham Round 12 Match Recap

The Sharks were all bite at RSEA Park, bursting out of the blocks with four unanswered goals and never looking back. With key performances across the ground and a rock-solid defensive effort, Southport notched their fourth straight win.

The Southport Sharks defeated Sandringham by 65 points at RSEA Park on Saturday.

The Sharks’ 16.14 (110) to 6.9 (45) win, was their fourth in a row and means they are only two points behind ladder leaders Box Hill with a game in hand.
 
Southport started well kicking the first four goals of the game, which broke the game open.
 
The Sharks’ scoring dried up a little in the second quarter, but they still won the term by eight points and took a 38 point lead into the main break.
 
Southport extended the margin to 51 points at three quarter time, before closing out the win in the last quarter with five goals to two.
 
20 year old Tai Hayes impressed for the Sharks with 21 disposals, five marks and two goals.
 
Max Spencer played well down back with 24 disposals, ten marks, three tackles and nine intercepts.
 
Jacob Heron (25 disposals,four tackles, six clearances and two goals), Boyd Woodcock (36 disposals, seven marks and 12 clearances) and Jacob Dawson (37 disposals, seven marks, five tackles and eight clearances) also had a big impact on the game.
 
After the match, Southport Coach Matthew Primus said, “We had a big focus on playing as a team today and I thought we did that well.”
