Coming off a successful year under Coach Matthew Lappin, the back-to-back Premiers lead by newly appointed Head Coach Corey Gillie, resumed their pre-season Monday night at Fankhauser Reserve. With a number of fresh faces in the squad, the Seniors are looking to make history once again in the upcoming season – by achieving an elusive threepeat.

Two-time Premiership Captain Rianna Schipp spoke ahead of the first week back on the track.

“It’s always exciting having the first session back of the new year, everyone’s really keen to get going,” she said.

While touching on the new squad, Schipp acknowledged the loss of players drafted to the AFLW at the back end of last year. Despite this, the captain expressed her enthusiasm with the incoming talent.

“We obviously lost some girls last year to the draft, which is awesome for them, but with that brings a whole lot of new talent to coming into the side.”

“It’s awesome to see all the new faces on night one and meet new people.”

In spite of the excitement, the captain was quick to reinforce the focused attitude of the players.

“We make sure we’re never complacent. The competition keeps getting better every year so we can’t ever think it’s going to come easy to us.

“The drive is always there, we’re always hungry to succeed.”
