Jacob Dawson has won his first J.J Liston Trophy after being awarded the 2025 VFL Best & Fairest at the VFL/VFLW Awards at Marvel Stadium on Monday Night.
Dawson finished in the top ten of the J.J Liston Trophy count in each of the past three seasons, including finishing Runner Up in 2022.
However, this year was his year. During the home and away season he averaged 34 disposals, 16 contested possessions, 9 clearances, 5 inside 50m entries and three tackles.
Talking to media after the ceremony Dawson said, “It is a really nice feeling to win this award.”
“I just love playing footy at Southport and I’m very grateful for my teammates and coaches.”
“It was very special to have my dad and fiancé Zali in the room, who have supported me so much.”
“The ultimate reward though is a premiership and hopefully we can achieve that this weekend.”
Dawson was also awarded his second Coaches MVP Award and was named Captain of the VFL Team of the Year.

He was joined in the team of the year with fellow Sharks teammate, Zac Foot.
Dawson was named as ruck rover, and Foot was named on the half-forward flank.
It was the first time Zac Foot has been named in the VFL team of the year. The Sharks vice-captain has had an incredible season, averaging 24 disposals, seven marks and five inside 50s a game.
