Southport Sharks is thrilled to present our 2025 home and away season fixture, following the AFL’s release of the VFL fixture earlier today.

The AFL disclosed the full schedule for Rounds 1-13 of the season, along with matchups for the remaining eight rounds.

Southport’s campaign kicks off with a highly anticipated Grand Final rematch against Werribee at Fankhauser Reserve on Saturday 22, March at 12:05 pm- the first of ten home games this year.

Other clubs set to visit Fankhauser Reserve during the season include Coburg, Gold Coast Suns, Port Melbourne, Frankston, Sydney Swans, Collingwood, Williamstown, Box Hill and North Melbourne.

In Round 4 on April 19, Southport Sharks will host a blockbuster Easter clash against local rivals, the Gold Coast Suns, in the fourth Mackenzie Cup at Fankhauser Reserve.

In Round 15, the Sharks will travel up the highway to face their other Queensland counterparts, the Brisbane Lions, at Brighton Homes Arena in Springfield.

The 2025 season consists of 21 rounds, with each team playing 18 matches. A competition bye will be observed from 11 to 13 April to accommodate the SANFL v VFL representatives clash during AFL Gather Round weekend.

This year’s representative match has been dubbed a ‘Festival of Footy’ by the AFL, thanks to the inclusion of VFLW and SANFLW teams – a historic milestone for the competition.

Following the home-and-away season, the top 10 teams will progress to the Finals Series, with those finishing 7th to 10th entering the Wildcard Round on 23-24 August.

The 2025 VFL Grand Final is scheduled for the weekend of 20-21 September, after a five-week finals series.

“We can’t wait to get back into it,” Southport Sharks General Manager of Football Operations, Jarrod Field said.

“Our fixture begins with a Grand Final rematch on our home deck, one of our ten home games this year, and we are pumped to be opening the season at Fankhauser Reserve.

“We’ve had an outstanding pre-season and we are ready to roll.”
