Southport Key Forward Wylie Buzza extended the margin to 31 points early in the second quarter with his third goal.

The Lions then responded with the next three majors to cut the Sharks lead to 13 points midway through the second term.

Southport were able to wrestle back momentum with four of the next five goals to lead by 27 points at the main break.

The Sharks led by a game high 42 points late in the third quarter, but the game was not over as Brisbane kicked the next four goals to trail by 17 points early in the last term.

Zac Foot (seven inside 50s, five score involvements and two goals) and Jacob Dawson (36 disposals, six marks, four tackles and 13 clearances) were also impactful.

After the game Southport Coach Matthew Primus said, “It was good to win and get back to playing the way we want to play.”

“We have had a tough stretch of games against AFL Reserves and aligned teams the last few weeks, and it has been a good test to see where we are in the competition.”

“We didn’t play our best footy today, however, we are heading back in the right direction, which is pleasing.”

Next week, Southport travel to Melbourne to take on Richmond at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday 12 July at 12:05pm.
