16-year-old Georja Davies starred in her senior debut with four goals as Southport defeated Wilston Grange by 64 points in their first home game of the year.

The comprehensive 10.6 (66) to 0.2 (2) continues their great start to the year.

After the match, Southport QAFLW Senior Coach Peter Doherty said, “It was a pleasing win in windy conditions against a determined opponent.”

Midfielders Steph O’Brien and Maddy Watt worked hard and gave great service to the forwards.

Georja Davies, whose three sisters are now on AFLW lists benefited from the service, and her four goals and several assists showed her enormous talent as well.

Maggie O’Connell continued her great start to the year and also kicked three goals.

This week, Southport’s QAFLW Seniors’ host the Aspley Hornets at 3pm on Saturday at Fankhauser Reserve.

Last year’s premiers remain undefeated after another big win, defeating Wilston Grange by 59 points at Fankhauser Reserve.

For the second week in a row the Sharks kept their opposition goaless winning (61) to 0.2 (2).

Hannah Davies in her return from injury starred for the Sharks with five goals and put her hand up for senior selection.

After the game, Southport’s QAFLW Reserves Coach Mal Smith said, “It was another great win and huge reward for effort that the girls are putting in.”

“The team implemented what we’ve been working on in training and could see the trust and confidence grow throughout the game.”

This week, Southport’s QAFLW Reserves’ host the Aspley Hornets at 5pm on Saturday at Fankhauser Reserve.

The Southport Sharks took on Wilston Grange in Round 1 of the QAFLW at Fankhauser Reserve on Saturday Afternoon.

The AFL has announced the 2021 VFL season will begin on Saturday, 17 April, with the Grand Final to be held on the weekend starting 18 September.
