Southport Seniors and Reserves win their first home game of the season against Maroochydore.

Southport hosted Maroochydore at Fankhauser Reserve on Saturday in Round 2 of the QAFLW.

Seniors

Southport defeated Maroochydore by 112 points, winning 18.16 (124) to 2.0 (12).

It was another comprehensive performance by the Sharks.

Southport led by 27 points at quarter time, 60 points at half time and 84 points at three quarter time.

Kierra Zerafa (39 disposals, six clearances and four tackles), Steph O’Brien (29 disposals, 31 hit outs and six clearances) and Maddy Watt (27 disposals, eight tackles and eight clearances) dominated in the midfield for the Sharks.

Up forward, Caitlin Miller (4 goals), Olivia Meagher (4 goals), Maddy Baldwin (3 goals) led the way.

After the game, Southport Coach Matt Lappin said, “It was another great result for us.”

“Even though the scoreline showed we had a big win, I thought Maroochydore did a good job at making it a tough contest.

 “I was wrapped on how we were able to share the load across the team, especially considering we had seven changes to the team this week, due to Academy commitments.”

“The girls that came in this week did their jobs, played their role and fitted in nicely.”

Southport’s next game is against Aspley on Saturday 26 April at 4:45pm at Graham Road.

Reserves

Southport defeated Maroochydore by 124 points, winning 20.16 (136) to 2.0 (12).

The Sharks got off to a fast start kicking six goals to zero in the opening term.

In the second quarter, Maroochydore were able to score two goals, which ended up being the only two goals the Roos kicked all game.

Leading by 54 points at half time, the Sharks continued their dominance in the second half.

Southport kicked a further three goals in the third quarter and seven goals in the last.

Maddie Gault, Georgia Breward and Holly Wall starred for the Sharks.

Danisha Hart from Southport’s Under 17s also impressed, with five goals.

After the game, Southport Coach Shannon Tate said, “It was another outstanding team performance.”

“We went into the game wanting to focus on our fast play ball movement. I thought we did that well and it showed on the scoreboard.”

Southport’s next game is against Aspley on Saturday 26 April at 6:45pm at Graham Road.
