Collingwood defeated Southport by 9 points at Fankhauser Reserve on Saturday Afternoon.

 
The Sharks were unable to cap off their annual Heritage Round with a win going down 9.10 (64) to 10.13 (73).
 
Southport kicked the first three goals of the game, before Collingwood responded with two of the next three majors to cut the margin to 11 points at quarter time.
 
The Magpies scored two goals early in the second quarter to take the lead for the first time in the match.

Southport responded with two of the next three goals to ensure the Sharks led at half time.
 
In the third quarter,  Collingwood kicked three goals to two, which gave the Magpies a five-point advantage going into the last quarter.
 
Collingwood then kicked the first two goals of the fourth term to extend the margin to 15 points.
 
Hugh Dixon scored a goal with a few minutes left to give the Sharks a slim chance, but it was too little too late, with the Sharks losing their second game in a row.
 
After the game, Southport Coach Matthew Primus said, “I couldn’t question our players’ effort. Unfortunately, though, we couldn’t get our scoring going which has usually been our strong suit.”
 
“Collingwood had a good plan to beat us, and we could not figure our way through it.”
 
“Every team goes through ups and downs, and we are going through a little down period at the moment. Our job now is to try and dig ourselves out of it as quickly as possible.”
