Southport v Richmond Round 16 Match Recap

Southport stormed home for a historic 28-point win over Richmond at Kinetic Stadium, claiming their first-ever victory against the Tigers. After a slow start, the Sharks turned the tide with a dominant second quarter.

The 15.15 (105) to 12.5 (77) victory is the Sharks first win against Richmond.

Jacob Dawson (47 disposals, ten marks and 15 clearances) and Max Pescud (four goals and seven marks) led the way for the Sharks.

After the game Southport Coach Matthew Primus said, “Richmond got a good jump on us.”

“At quarter time we changed some things and from about halfway through the second quarter, I thought we were terrific.”

“We have had a big last five weeks against AFL reserve and aligned teams and I’m really proud of the guys on how they handled it.”

“We had three wins but had opportunities to win all five of them. So, we have learnt a lot from this period and look forward to our last four home and away games.”
