Box Hill defeated Southport by 44 points at Fankhauser Reserve on Saturday.

The ladder leading Hawks proved too good winning 14.13 (97) to 8.5 (53).

Southport remained in striking distance for most of the match and were only trailing by eight points midway through the third quarter.

However, the Hawks finished strongly kicking five of the last six goals of the match to record their seventh win in a row.

Despite the result, Michael Manteit played well in his 100th VFL game with 27 disposals, 12 marks and a goal.

After the game Southport Coach Matthew Primus said, “I was proud of our effort. The boys hung in there well, but unfortunately in the end Box Hill were able to kick away.”

“The Hawks are on top of the ladder for a reason, they are a well drilled, talented team and we saw that today. It’s disappointing to lose but we will dust ourselves off and get ready for next week.”

Next week, Southport travel to Melbourne to take on Werribee at Avalon Airport Oval on Saturday 9 August at 12:05pm.
