Sam Lowson Joins The Sharks

Southport would like to welcome former North Melbourne VFL forward Sam Lowson, who has signed with the club ahead of the 2025 VFL season.

Southport would like to welcome former North Melbourne VFL forward Sam Lowson, who has signed with the club ahead of the 2025 VFL season.

Lowson has played the last two seasons for North Melbourne’s VFL team after starting his VFL career at Coburg in 2017.

In 2020, he won a premiership for the Woodville-West Torrens Eagles in the SANFL before returning to Coburg in 2021.

Earlier this year, Lowson played in the VFL state team against the SANFL alongside Hugh Dixon, Brayden Crossley, Ben Jepson, Boyd Woodcock and Jacob Dawson.

Southport’s General Manager of Football Operations, Jarrod Field, said, “We are thrilled Sam has decided to join the Sharks.”

“He comes to the club as an experienced VFL player who can make an immediate impact for us in 2025”.

The Southport Sharks QAFLW team has secured a finals berth in their first season in the competition after defeating Coorparoo by 14 points on Saturday.

In front of many past players and a host of juniors, Southport defeated Sandringham by 44 points at Fankhauser Reserve.

Southport piled on 37 goals in a powerhouse performance against Yeronga, with 19 goal kickers and a big show of team-first footy.

The Southport Sharks have lost the QAFLW Senior Grand Final to UQ by seven points in extra time on Sunday afternoon. 

Fraser Thurlow is set to play his 100th senior game for the Southport Sharks on Saturday, against the GWS Giants, at Tom Wills Oval.
