Southport Sharks QAFLW Round 15 2026

Seniors hold firm to claim gritty win, while Reserves maintain unbeaten run in a commanding victory.

Seniors | Sharks hold firm to claim gritty win over Broadbeach

Southport has continued its strong QAFLW Seniors campaign, withstanding a determined Broadbeach fightback to secure another important victory at Fankhauser Reserve.

The Sharks recorded a 4.5 (29) to 3.2 (20) win, doing the damage in a blistering opening quarter before defending resolutely for the remainder of the afternoon.

Southport wasted little time taking control, piling on four unanswered goals in the opening term to establish a 24-point lead at the first break. Tayla Christensen sparked the early charge with the opening goal of the match before adding another late in the quarter to cap off a dominant start.

Broadbeach responded after quarter time, lifting its intensity around the contest and preventing the Sharks from adding another major. Despite Southport creating opportunities, the visitors wrestled momentum back and gradually reduced the margin heading into the second half.

The contest remained a grind after the main break, with scoring becoming increasingly difficult. Southport’s defence stood up under pressure, absorbing repeat entries and refusing to allow Broadbeach to close the gap any further than nine points.

While the Sharks were unable to add to their first-quarter goal tally, the work completed early proved enough to secure another valuable four points.

Giselle Davies was influential throughout the contest, while Siobhan Ross again impressed with her work around the ball. Megan Hunt produced another composed defensive performance, with Ella Maurer and captain Rianna Schipp important contributors through the midfield. Lilly-ann Ryder also continued her strong season.

Tayla Christensen finished with two goals, while Grace Cooper and Neive Ryan each added a major.

The Seniors will conclude their home and away season taking on Moreton Bay at Red Rooster Park at 3:45pm next Saturday, August 8.

Reserves | Sharks maintain unbeaten run with commanding victory

Southport has continued its unbeaten QAFLW Reserves season, producing another convincing performance to account for Broadbeach at Fankhauser Reserve.

The Sharks defeated the Cats 9.3 (57) to 0.2 (2), setting up the result with a dominant first half before finishing the job with another disciplined defensive display.

Southport came out with plenty of intent, applying relentless pressure from the opening bounce. Sasha McCulloch set the tone by kicking the first two goals of the afternoon, helping the Sharks pile on four majors in the opening term to establish a 24-point lead at quarter time.

The momentum continued into the second quarter as Southport added another three goals to extend its advantage. The Sharks controlled possession around the ground and limited Broadbeach’s opportunities, taking a 42-point lead into the main break.

Scoring became harder to come by in the second half, but Southport never allowed the visitors back into the contest. The Sharks added two more goals across the final two quarters while their defensive unit stood tall, holding Broadbeach goalless for the entire afternoon.

Taneille Krzyska led the way with another influential performance, while Tenielle Langdale controlled the ruck and Jesica Pang continued her strong form. Sasha McCulloch, Lucy Ashcroft and Sage Crossley also played key roles in another polished team effort.

The Reserves will take on Moreton Bay at Red Rooster Park at 5:45pm next Saturday, August 8 for their final game of the home and away season.
