The Southport Sharks have opened their 2023 campaign with a comprehensive 86 point win over Sandringham at Fankhauser Reserve.
The Sharks came out of the gates early, kicking seven goals to zero in the first quarter, and never let the Zebras back into the contest winning 17.16 (118) to 4.8. (32).
Zac Foot (4 goals) and new recruit Jackson Edwards (34 disposals and 9 clearances) starred.
Former Collingwood VFL player Zach Molloy was a tackling machine with nine tackles in his debut.
Jesse Joyce (28 disposals) and Jacob Dawson (35 disposals) as usual had plenty of the ball.
Young gun Max Pescud was dangerous in front of goal with two majors.
Southport Coach Steve Daniel was very happy with his team’s performance.
After the game Daniel said, “It was terrific to get off to such a fast start.”
“Sandringham are a quality outfit, so to be leading by seven goals at quarter time was outstanding.”
“I’m really proud of the boys’ effort and work rate for the full game. It was a great win to start off the season.”
