In the Seniors, the Sharks defeated Yeronga by 80 points.

The 12.14 (86) to 1.0 (6) win means that the Sharks remain undefeated after eight games.

After the game, Southport Coach Peter Doherty said, “ After a successful start to the season there is always a risk of complacency. Our girls showed no signs of that which was terrific. Their preparation was spot on, and they executed our game plan really well.”

“We started well, and we kept the foot on the pedal for the remainder of the game, which was really pleasing.”

“We have just got to keep accumulating wins, as we look to secure a top 2 position on the ladder at the end of the season, and on the weekend, we were able to do that.”

Maddy Gault, who came up from the Reserves a couple of weeks ago, played extremely well on the wing.

Fellow winger, and acting Captain Rianna Schipp was also very good.

Midfielders Steph O’Brien, Maddy Watt and Carly Remmos were at their usual best.

Jess Maher was solid down back, and Maggie O’Connell kicked three goals to remain on top of the QAFLW Goalkicking Leaderboard.

This week, Southport’s Seniors play Aspley in a top of the table clash at Graham Road Oval at 4:45 pm.

Reserves 

In the Reserves, Yeronga defeated Southport by 16 points.

The Devil’s 6.5 (41) to 4.1 (25) win was set up in the second quarter, with the home side kicking three goals to zero.

Southport started well kicking the first two goals, however, Yeronga steadied late in the first quarter, before kicking three goals to zero in the second quarter.

The second half was even, but the damage had been done.

Reserves Coach Mal Smith said, “Although, we lost the game there was still plenty of positives to take from the game.”

“The girls’ effort was fantastic, we just let a few of their players get on top of us in the second quarter, which was the disappointing part.”

“Our second half was much better, but unfortunately we couldn’t catch them.”

Kaitlin Mercer was the standout with her three goals.

The other goal kicker was Lillian Behan who played her best game of the year.

Indira Maradani battled hard in the ruck, Lizzie Andres played well down back and

Southport’s Reserves play Aspley who are top of the QAFLW Reserves Ladder, at Graham Road Oval at 6:45 pm this Saturday.

The Wilston Grange Gorillas hosted the Southport Sharks at Hickey Park in Brisbane on Saturday Afternoon for Round 9 of the QAFLW.

The Southport Sharks travelled to Brisbane to take on the University of Queensland Red Lions for Round 11 of the QAFLW.

Boyd Woodcock has won his first Doc Mackenzie Medal after being announced Southport’s VFL Best and Fairest on Friday Night at the Sharks Events Centre.
