Final six fixture games won only to miss out on finals by percentage
THE depth of the side was tested early in the season due to injury concerns, however Sharks finished off 2011 strong.
Certainly the loss of two key forwards and a quality midfielder just prior to the commencement of the 2011 Northern Conference season affected the on-field performances dramatically.
The pace of the game went up a notch this season as had fitness standards. To complete to the higher standard senior coach Norm Dare had the players putting in three compulsory sessions through-out the week, plus game day.
The Sharks won their final six fixture games, only to miss out on the finals by percentage only. No Gold Coast side made the finals this year.
Sharks had a 2-1 winning record against Broadbeach and a 2-0 record against Labrador for the season.
Mid-fielder Matthew Payne tied for the Grogan Medal, which is the league’s best and fairest award for the season. Matthew was humble in his acceptance speech and thanked all his team mates for the input towards him winning the award.
