Southport v Williamstown VFL Round 11 Match Report

Southport celebrated Steve Daniel’s 100th game as Head Coach with a 45 point win over Williamstown on Saturday at Fankhauser Reserve.

Southport celebrated Steve Daniel’s 100th game as Head Coach with a 45 point win over Williamstown on Saturday at Fankhauser Reserve.

Williamstown kicked the first goal of the game, but the rest of the day belonged to Southport, who won 13.13 (91) to 7.4 (46).

The Sharks led by 11 points at quarter-time, 19 points at half-time and 32 points at three-quarter time.

It was a complete reversal of the Round 3 result earlier this year at DSV Stadium when Williamstown defeated Southport by 46 points.

After the game, Steve Daniel said, “It was obviously nice to win on my 100th game as coach, but the best thing was the turnaround from our last game against Williamstown to this one.”

“I thought we were much tougher at the contest, which was terrific to see because we have worked on it a lot in the last couple of months.”

“It was also really pleasing to see the boys put together a full four-quarter performance, especially when last time we played Williamstown, we didn’t.”

The Sharks had plenty of contributors across the paddock. Keegan Gray played his best game for the Sharks with 27 disposals, ten marks and four tackles and Jay Lockhart played his best game of the year with three goals and two assists.

Southport have now won their last five games and are fourth on the ladder with seven wins and three losses.

This week, the Sharks play Coburg on Sunday at 12:05pm at Piranha Park.
