Southport reclaimed the Mackenzie Cup after defeating Gold Coast by 47 points at People First Stadium on Sunday Afternoon.

Southport led by 47 points at halftime and by as much as 60 points late in the third quarter before the Suns kicked five of the last eight goals of the match to reduce the final margin back to 47 points.
Ben Jepson (40 disposals and 11 marks), Jacob Dawson (38 disposals and 11 clearances), and Boyd Woodcock (30 disposals, nine clearances and a goal) led the way for the Sharks.
After the game, Southport Coach Steve Daniel said, “Doc (Dr Alan Mackenzie) means so much to our football club, so it was great to win the cup back.”
“Everyone contributed, which was terrific to see. We have had a solid couple of performances now with back-to-back wins, so the challenge is now to build on that.”
