Seniors 

In the Seniors, Bond University defeated Southport by 23 points.

It is the first time the Sharks have lost this year, going down 4.4 (28) to 7.9 (51).

Southport kicked the first goal of the game, but the remainder of the day belonged to Bond University.

After the game, Southport Coach Peter Doherty said, “Of course the result is disappointing, however, we will review it well, and learn a lot from it.”

“Bond University are a quality club and they showed on the weekend with a full team they are hard to beat.”

Despite losing Southport remain on top of the ladder and are four points ahead of Bond University, with four games left in the home and away season.

This week, the whole competition has a bye due to the Tasmania v Queensland representative game.

The following week Southport play Maroochydore on Saturday July 8 at Neil Upton Oval on the Sunshine Coast at 2pm.

Reserves 

In the Reserves, the Bull Sharks were dominant defeating the Sharks 10.10 (70) to 0.

Bond University led by 60 points at half time, but the Sharks were able to minimise the damage in the second half to concede a further ten points.

Southport Coach Mal Smith said, “We were smashed in the first half, but I am really proud of the girls that they didn’t give up.”

“Our second half was much better, and it gives us confidence going into the last four rounds of the home and away season.”

The Reserves next game is against Maroochydore at Neil Upton Oval on Saturday July 8 at 12:00pm.
