The Southport Sharks 2023 season finished with a 50 point loss at the hands of Collingwood at the AIA Centre on Saturday Afternoon.
Southport had one less scoring shot in the first quarter than the finals bound Collingwood, however, trailed by 27 points at quarter time due to inaccuracy.
The second and third quarters were fairly even, but the Magpies kicked away in the last quarter to win 16.12 (108) to 8.10 (58).
Jacob Dawson (34 disposals and 8 clearances) and Boyd Woodcock (33 disposals and 8 clearances) were the shining lights in the Sharks’ loss.
Southport Coach Steve Daniel said, “It wasn’t the way we wanted to finish our year, but unfortunately Collingwood were too good for us.”
“As a club, we are disappointed not to make finals especially after making the Grand Final last year.”
“However, we have learnt a lot this year and we will review it hard and look at how we can get better in all aspects so that we can more on field success next year.”
“We love being a part of the VFL, and we are excited by the challenge of trying to get back to where we were in our first two years in the competition.”
