Seniors 

In the Seniors, the Sharks defeated the Red Lions by 49 points.

The 7.9 (51) to 0.2 (2) win means that the Sharks remain undefeated after seven games.

After the game Southport Coach Peter Doherty said, “It is an honour to be at the halfway mark of the season undefeated. We have got to respect that privilege and continue to work hard in the second half of the season.”

“I thought UQ challenged us today, especially in the contest, but we were able to stand up which was really pleasing.”

Jess Maher and Leigh Alder were sensational down back for the Sharks.

Kristi Harvey was great in her debut for the Sharks, and the midfield led by Steph O’Brien were dominant.

This week the Sharks Seniors play Yeronga at Leyshon Park at 4:45 pm.

Reserves

In the Reserves, the Sharks defeated the Red Lions by 82 points.

The Sharks were ruthless in the second half kicking nine goals to zero, which set up the 11.16 (82) to (0) victory.

Southport Coach Mal Smith said, “I thought our defensive pressure was great, we were really composed when we had the football and our contested work especially in the second half was phenomenal.”

“The ladder is really tight at the moment, so to win by 82 points is fantastic for our percentage.”

Indira Marandani, Alessia Smythe and Ella Williams were terrific down back and played a pivotal role in keeping UQ scoreless.

Up forward, Kaitlin Mercer who kicked four goals capitalised on the work of the midfield led by Victoria Winstanley.

Tenielle Langdale, who is new to the sport, also kicked her first goal ever, which was a great moment.

This week the Sharks Reserves’ play Yeronga at Leyshon Park at 3pm.
