Boyd Woodcock has won back-to-back Alex Aurrichio Medals for his 42 disposals, 14 clearances and one goal in the Sharks 82 point win over the Northern Bullants.

Boyd Woodcock has won back-to-back Alex Aurrichio Medals for his 42 disposals, 14 clearances and one goal in the Sharks 82 point win over the Northern Bullants.

The Alex Aurrichio Medal is awarded to the best on ground when the Bullants and Sharks play to commerate Alex Aurrichio who played for both clubs before tragically passing at age 30 in a bicycle accident in 2020 in Darwin.

After the match, Boyd Woodcock said, “I never met Alex but I know how much he meant to both teams, so it is a massive honour to win this award.”

The Bullants were coming off their first win in 372 days and started well kicking three of the first four goals.

However, they were only able to manage one more goal until the last quarter and the Sharks were way too good winning 18.20 (128) to 7.4 (46).

The win means the Sharks are now fifth on the VFL ladder with three wins and three losses.

Southport Coach Steve Daniel said, “It is great to square the ledger after losing three games in a row. We have got back to the way we want to play, which is really pleasing.”

Southport had contributors all over the ground, with Jesse Joyce (26 disposals) in the midfield and Daniel Charlesworth down back.

Up forward Jed Foggo and Jack Sexton, who are both under 22 listed players, kicked four goals each.

This week the Sharks play Geelong on Sunday at 12:00pm at GMHBA Stadium in Geelong.
