The Southport Sharks have finished their home and away season with a massive 106 point win over Coburg.
The Sharks needed the win ahead of their first VFL finals campaign, mainly to get some confidence back after dropping their last three games.
Mitch Johnson and Jacob Townsend kicked four goals each.
Mitch Johnson has now kicked over 150 goals for the Sharks.
Boyd Woodcock (30 disposals, 6 marks) and Jacob Dawson (27 disposals, 15 clearances) had plenty of footy.
Brayden Crossley, Kwaby Boakye, Jacob Heron and Rhys King were also amongst the Sharks’ best.
Southport’s attention is now on their first week of the finals, which is against the Brisbane Lions.
The game time and venue is yet to be announced but Brisbane will host as they finished second on the ladder.
After the game, Southport Coach Steve Daniel said, “I just wanted the boys to regain their confidence and belief.”
“To lose the last three weeks is not ideal, but it was not all doom and gloom.
“Today, the focus was just to get back to our brand of football which has served us so well, which I think we did.”
“We have had a terrific season. I’m so proud of the group that we have been able to finish in the Top 4 in the VFL.”
“It is a special effort. The job is not done, though. We go up the highway next week against a team we greatly respect in the Brisbane Lions. We can’t wait.”
