Southport Sharks secured their first-ever win at Casey Fields with a 41-point victory over the Demons, breaking away after half time in a strong VFL Round 8 performance.

Southport are back on the winners’ list after defeating Casey by 41 points, at Casey Fields on Saturday.

The Demons led at half time by five points, but it was the Sharks who came away comprehensive 14.10 (94) to 6.17 (53) winners after a dominant second half.

The win marks the first time that Southport have ever defeated Casey.

After the game, Southport Coach Matt Primus said, “We got a bit lucky with them kicking inaccurately, but overall, it was a terrific team win.”

“We had to tidy some things up at half time, because Casey were moving the ball too easily from coast to coast in the first half.”

“It started with getting our team defence better, which I thought we did really well in the second half.”

Zac Foot (32 disposals, ten marks, eight tackles and one goal), Jesse Joyce (30 disposals, eight marks and eight rebounds) and Hugh Dixon (three goals and four marks) led the way for the Sharks.

Next week, Southport host Frankston at Fankhauser Reserve, on Saturday 24 May at 12:05pm for Sir Doug Nicholls Round.
