Hugh Dixon was the star of the show with 13 goals, 26 disposals and 15 marks in the Sharks’ 27.14 (176) to 10.7 (67) victory.

Dixon was awarded the fourth edition of the Alex Aurrichio Medal which commemorates Alex Aurrichio who played for both the Northern Blues and Southport Sharks before tragically passing away at age 30 in a bicycle accident in Darwin in 2020.

After the game Dixon said, “It’s a great honour to win medal as “Rooch” was a respected member from both clubs.”

“I didn’t get the opportunity to play with or meet him, but I know players like Mike Manteit did and they speak very highly of him.”

The Sharks did not have the game all their own way, losing the second quarter by two points, but they came home strong kicking 15 goals to three after half time.

Jacob Dawson (40 disposals, 8 marks and 12 clearances), Jacob Heron (29 disposals, four tackles and 10 clearances) and Zac Foot (29 disposals, 12 marks and a goal) continued their good form.

Next week, Southport have a bye. The Sharks’ next game is against Sandringham on Saturday 14 June at RSEA Park in Melbourne, at 12:05pm.
