Southport travelled to Brisbane to take on the University of Queensland Red Lions on Saturday at UQ Playing Field 2.

Southport defeated UQ by 91 points on Saturday winning 14.14 (98) to 1.1 (7).

The Sharks kicked seven goals to zero in the first half and seven goals to one in the second half.
Tayla Gregory led the way for the Sharks with 24 disposals, 24 hitouts, seven marks and four goals.
Maddy Watt played well in her 80th senior game for the Sharks, with 22 disposals and 12 tackles.
Another highlight for the Sharks was Peyton Mackie playing her first senior game since injuring her ACL last year.
After the game Southport Coach Matthew Lappin said, “It was a good, hard-fought performance.”
“It wasn’t our prettiest game because UQ made it hard for us to be effective with ball in hand, but it was a solid result nonetheless.”
Southport have a bye this week, before their next game against Bond University on Saturday 12 July at 3:30pm.

Southport defeated UQ by 125 points on Saturday winning 20.11 (131) to 1.0 (6).
The Sharks kicked eight goals in the first quarter and four majors each in every other quarter with UQ’s only goal coming in the third quarter.
Aasha Elliott gave great explosive speed out of the midfield for the Sharks, whilst Avalon Pearce and Danisha Pearce led the way in front of goals with four majors each.
After the game Southport Coach Shannan Tate said, “We jumped out of the blocks which was outstanding.”
“The most pleasing thing was that we were getting the ball to the dangerous spots to kick lots of goals.”
“It was great to play the way we did and fine tune our gameplan. The whole team played their roles which was awesome to see.”
