​Queensland defeated Tasmania in the Mens and Womens Representative Games at Latrobe Football Ground on Saturday.
Women’s
 
Queensland only led by three points at half time but kept Tasmania goaless in the second half to win by 42 points, 8.15 (63) to 3.3 (21).
 
Southport had eight players that represented Queensland – Caitlin Miller, Tayla Gregory, Steph O’Brien (Queensland Captain), Olivia Meagher, Rianna Schipp, Kiarra Zerafa, Maddy Baldwin and Maddy Watt.
 
Tayla Gregory was named best on ground for her work in the ruck whilst fellow Sharks Olivia Meagher, Maddy Watt and Rianna Schipp were all named amongst Queensland’s best players.
 
Olivia Meagher and Caitlin Miller kicked two goals each whilst Steph O’Brien scored one.
 
Queensland have now won the last three encounters against Tasmania.
 
After the game Steph O’Brien said to AFLQ media, “To come down to Tasmania and get the win is very special.”
 
“The first half was very contested. They really brought the heat. After half time, we were able to play our game style which was good.”
 
This week, Southport host Bond University in the QAFLW at Fankhauser Reserve. The Reserves play at 1:30 and the Seniors play at 3:30pm.

Queensland got off to a flyer against Tasmania kicking six goals to one in the first quarter, which set up a 38 point victory, winning 15.15 (105) to 10.7 (67).
 
Tasmania had won the last two years, so Queensland were desperate to win this year.
 
Southport Sharks Coaching Director Steve Daniel was Queensland’s Head Coach and Southport listed player Riley Bowman was part of the team.
 
Former Sharks – Charlton Offermans, Rhys King and Ryan Banks-Smith were also part of the team.
 
Cameron Ellis-Yolmen won Best on Ground.
