The Southport Sharks are pleased to announce that Corey Gillie has been appointed QAFLW Senior Coach for the 2026 season.

Gillie has been involved in coaching at the Southport Sharks for the last 14 years at both the junior and senior club.

Over the past three seasons, he has served as an Assistant Coach for the Sharks’ QAFLW Seniors — first under Peter Doherty, and most recently under Matthew Lappin.

Gillie said, “I just love coaching and being involved in football. I have learnt so much working under Peter and Matthew over the past three years.”

“The main thing I want to keep building on is what we’ve established over the last three years — a strong culture, developing people and an enjoyable environment.

“I’m fully aware of the magnitude of this role and how successful the club is. It will be a challenge to stay at the top after two successful seasons, but that is what excites me the most.”

Southport’s General Manager of Football Operations Jarrod Field said, “We are really pleased to welcome Corey as our Senior Coach for next season.”

“Corey has over ten years of coaching experience including being part of our program for the last three years, where we have won two premierships.”

“He is a Southport man through and through, and we trust that he is the best person to take our QAFLW program forward.”
