The Sharks led for a period of the first quarter, but other than that, the day belonged to GWS, winning 19.14 (128) to 11.13 (79).

After the game, Southport Coach Steve Daniel said, “It was a disappointing result, especially because of how important the game was in the context of the season and that it was Fraser Thurlow’s 100th senior game.”

“Unfortunately, we weren’t able to match it with the Giants. They were too good for us in all aspects of the game.”

18-year-old Byron Finch, who debuted last week, was the shining light in the loss with three goals.

Jacob Dawson (35 disposals) and Jackson Edwards (31 disposals) also played well.

This week, Southport play Coburg at 12:05pm on Saturday the 24th of June at Fankhauser Reserve.
