SENIORS

Southport defeated Maroochydore by 21 points, winning 4.6 (30) to 1.3 (9).

The Sharks led by 13 points at quarter time after Kierra Zerafa kicked the first two goals of the match.

Maroochydore’s only goal came early in the second quarter to keep the pressure on Southport.

It didn’t take long for the Sharks to respond with a goal to Maddy Baldwin halfway through the second term.

Southport led by 13 points at halftime, and Hannah Davies extended the Shark’s lead in the first minute of the third quarter, which ended up being the last goal of the match.

Steph O’Brien and Maighan Fogas led the way for the Sharks in the middle, whilst Tearnie Brown and Kaylee Kimber were solid down back.

After the game, Southport Coach Peter Doherty said, “Credit to Maroochydore, they never went away and it was a very tough, contested game.”

“We’ve had a good two-game block on the road, with wins over UQ and Maroochydore. Now, we look forward to two home games in a row to close out our home and away season.”

The Sharks are on top of the ladder now, with two rounds left in the home and away season.

This week, Southport play Coorparoo at Fankhauser Reserve on Saturday at 2pm.

RESERVES

Southport defeated Maroochydore by 98 points, winning 16.9 (105) to 1.1 (7).

In the first quarter the Sharks kicked six goals to lead by 37 points at quarter time.

Maroochydore won the second term kicking the only goal of the quarter.

It was all Southport in the second half though, as the Sharks added another ten majors to Maroochydore’s zero.

Taylah Power kicked seven goals for the Sharks and Eloise O’Brien kicked three goals.

Southport Coach Mal Smith said, “It was a great performance in tough conditions.”

“Our start was terrific and I thought the way we responded in the second half after a challenging second quarter was awesome to see.”

This week, Southport host Coorparoo at Fankhauser Reserve on Saturday, with the game starting at 12pm.

Kool Beanz Academy has played a significant role in the success of the Southport Sharks women’s football program, which will featured both the seniors and reserves in the Grand Final this year.

The Southport Sharks were unable to beat the top of the ladder Casey Demons on Sunday afternoon, going down by 30 points at Casey Fields.
