Michael Manteit is set to play his 100th senior game for the Southport Sharks on Saturday, against the Sydney Swans at Fankhauser Reserve.
The former Collingwood rookie listed player joined the club in 2018, after a two-year stint at Sydney University in the NEAFL and two seasons in the Darwin summer competition with St Marys.
Manteit went on to win the Doc Mackenzie Medal (Southport Best & Fairest), was named in the NEAFL team of the year and won a NEAFL Premiership, in his first year at the club.
Since then, he has played in two grand finals (NEAFL – 2019 and VFL – 2022).
In 2022 and 2023, Manteit was co-captain of the club with Jacob Dawson, after being in the leadership group since 2018.
Manteit has also been instrumental in establishing Club 61, Southport’s Past Players and Officials Association.
Southport’s General Manager of Football Operations Jarrod Field said, “We congratulate Michael for reaching this significant milestone at the Southport Sharks.”
“He played a pivotal role in helping us win the 2018 NEAFL Premiership and the club’s transition from the NEAFL to VFL.”
“We wish him all the best this weekend, fittingly it’s against the team we beat in the 2018 NEAFL Grand Final, and hopefully we can celebrate his milestone with a win.”
Southport’s game against Sydney this Saturday at Fankhauser Reserve starts at 12:05pm, and is free entry. The game will also be live streamed for free via afl.com.au and the AFL Live Official App.
