President’s Message 2022 – Matthew Schneider

The year 2022 will be recorded as one of the most significant years in the history of the Southport Australian Football Club.

The year 2022 will be recorded as one of the most significant years in the history of the Southport Australian Football Club.

I’d like to take this opportunity to recognise and celebrate your achievements – both collective and individual – over a season we are all very proud.

I’d also like to acknowledge the passing of Dr Alan “Doc” Mackenzie, our president of 49 years before his unexpected passing in May 2022, after a lifetime of service to this club and football in Queensland.

The awarding of the “The Doc Medal” to back to back winner Jacob Dawson at last week’s best and fairest, and winning the inaugural Mackenzie Cup, will hold special significance for us all.

It was also exciting to introduce the “The Aud Medal”, which was presented to Maddy Watt, deservedly deemed the QAFLW Seniors’ best and fairest.

Audrey Fankhauser was the women behind the scenes in the early Magpies/Sharks days and we are proud to name this award in her honour.

On behalf of the board, we congratulate you all on a season full of success across our football program. To have had both our VFL and QAFLW teams compete in their respective Grand Finals, and our QAFLW Reserves win the premiership, is an enormous credit to the players, coaches and staff across our football department.

We are immensely proud of what you all achieved this year and, more importantly, how you went about achieving it.

Thank you so much to all of our sponsors. Your partnership with the club is very much appreciated.

Finally, thank you to our partners and families of our playing group and football department staff for your support throughout a challenging year.

You are an important part of our club.

We trust you will enjoy your break, and we look forward to season 2023.

Matt Schneider,

President
