Southport Sharks dominated QAFLW Round 12 with a 46-point win in the Seniors and a 51-point victory in the Reserves over Bond University. Both teams overcame early challenges to finish strong ahead of Pride Round at Fankhauser Reserve.

QAFLW Seniors

Southport defeated Bond University by 46 points, winning 10.10 (70) to 4.0 (24)

Bond University started well kicking two goals to one in the opening term.
Southport kicked the only goal of the second quarter to lead by five points at half time.
In the third term, the Sharks scored three goals to one which gave them a 19 point buffer at the last change.
Southport dominated in the final quarter with five goals to one, to close out their fourth win in a row against their local rivals.
After the game Southport Coach Matthew Lappin said, “It was a really good result as it was a tough battle and was great to see how our players responded under pressure.
“It did take us a little while to break them. We weathered the storm though and then got control of the game and were able to play our fast brand of footy which was pleasing.”
Kierra Zerafa (16 disposals, four clearances and eight tackles), Steph O’Brien (26 disposals, seven clearances and 11 tackles) and Sunny Lappin (32 disposals and eight clearances).
Next week, Southport host Aspley as part of Pride Round at Fankhauser Reserve on Saturday 19 July at 2pm.

QAFLW Reserves

Southport defeated Bond University by 51 points, winning 8.9 (57) to 1.0 (6).

Bond University who defeated Southport earlier this year kicked the first goal of the game early in the first term.
The Sharks then responded with two goals just before quarter time to lead by seven points at the first change.
From there the day belonged to Southport, with Bond remaining scoreless for the rest of the game. 
After the match Southport Coach Shannan Tate said, “It was a great test for our girls and it was pleasing to see them stand up as Bond brought the heat with pressure and contest.”
“In the end it was a solid team performance, everyone played their roles, and we got better as the game went on which was good.”
“We learnt a lot from the first time we played Bond this year and it was great to see us implement some of those things we wanted to get better at.”
Next week, Southport host Aspley as part of Pride Round at Fankhauser Reserve on Saturday 19 July at 12pm.
