Seniors

The Southport Sharks’ undefeated start in the QAFLW Seniors continued over the weekend with a 95-point win over Maroochydore Roos.

It took a while for the Sharks to get in to gear, however, once they did, they were lethal winning 14.17 (101) to 1.0 (6).

The Sharks were dominant in the first quarter, but inaccurate goal kicking meant they only led by seven points at quarter time.

They straightened up in the second quarter and got back to playing their best footy.

Southport Coach Peter Doherty said, “Everyone contributed which was fantastic. We knew we had to focus on what we do best, win the contest and get the ball forward which we did.”

Darcie Davies who was recently added to the Gold Coast AFLW list played came back into the side and kicked three goals.

Down back Selina Priest continued her great form, and Tasmin Perry played her best game for the year.

Rianna Schipp on the wing, as well as Carly Remmos and Georgia Breward in the midfield, were exceptional.

This Saturday, the Sharks play Coorparoo up in Brisbane at Giffin Park. The Seniors game is on oval 1 at 4:45pm.

Reserves

The Southport Sharks lost a nail-biter on Saturday Night against the Maroochydore Roos at Fankhauser Reserve.

Southport were up by 10 points at three quarter time, but the Roos came home strong to win by 2 points.

Maroochydore put a dagger in the Sharks’ hearts and kicked the winner in the last minute to win 3.0 (18) to 2.4 (16).

Southport Coach Mal Smith said, “It stings a lot. We did a lot of things right; however, we were not able to close the game out.”

“We will learn from it though and make sure when we find ourselves in this situation again; we are able to finish the game well.”

Victoria Winstanley played her best game of the year, and Peyton Mackie who is a Southport Under 17 player continues to impress.

This Saturday, the Sharks’ Reserves play Coorparoo at Giffin Park on Oval 1 at 3:00pm.

The Casey Demons defeated the Southport Sharks by one point in a tight and tense affair at Fankhauser Reserve on Saturday.  

The Sharks were all bite at RSEA Park, bursting out of the blocks with four unanswered goals and never looking back. With key performances across the ground and a rock-solid defensive effort, Southport notched their fourth straight win.

Southport would like to welcome former North Melbourne VFL forward Sam Lowson, who has signed with the club ahead of the 2025 VFL season.
