The Southport Sharks travelled to Brisbane to take on the Wilston Grange Gorillas at Hickey Park on Saturday.

Georja Davies dominating as Ruck


Southport defeated Wilston Grange by 75 points, winning 15.11 (101) to 4.2 (26).
 
The Sharks led by 20 points at quarter time, 32 points at half time and 51 points at three quarter time.
 
Olivia Meagher was the standout for the Sharks with 20 disposals, six marks and two goals.
 
Megan Hunt was impressive down back whilst Tayla Gregory and Georja Davies were dominant in the ruck.
 
After the game, Southport Coach Matthew Lappin said, “It was a hard fought game. Wilston Grange made it hard for us, and to be honest I think the scoreline is a little miss leading.”
 
“In the end though, our offence really stood up and our defence did a great job keeping them to four goals.”
 
Next week, Southport host Yeronga South Brisbane at Fankhauser Reserve at 3pm.

Georgia Breward and Peyton Mackie impressed again in the midfield with their clearance work.
 
Keely Whittaker, Mia Trinder, Danisha Hart and Bindi Crabtree were also impactful in the victory.
 
After the game, Southport Coach Shannan Tate said, “I thought it was the best we’ve played all year as a team.
 
“We wanted to be clean with our fundamentals and play our Sharks style of football, and I think we did that.”
 
“We were able to keep the opposition scoreless which showed although we were winning, we did not give up defensively and kept fighting all the way to the end.”
