The Zebras kicked six unanswered goals after Southport’s last goal midway through the third quarter to win 8.12 (60) to 8.11 (59).

After the match, Southport Coach Steve Daniel said, “It was a disappointing result.”

“I thought we played well in the first half and had the game on our terms. Unfortunately, though, we couldn’t close the game out.”

“Credit to Sandringham, they never gave up, and we weren’t able to halt their momentum.”

“We will review it, reset and look to rebound against Sydney this week.”

Jacob Dawson (39 disposals and 13 clearances) and Boyd Woodcock (35 disposals and eight clearances) played well in the middle for the Sharks despite the result.

Jesse Joyce, Rhys Clark and Nick Williams were solid down back.

Up forward, Jay Lockhart and Ryan Banks-Smith kicked two goals each.

Southport play Sydney on Saturday at Fankhauser Reserve at 12:05pm.
