SOUTHPORT delivered a dominant four-quarter display to secure a 22.13 (145) to 10.9 (69) victory, breaking the game open with a blistering second term before maintaining control for the remainder of the contest.

Southports Jacob Dawson and Boyd Woodcock celebrate a goal.
It was a fiery opening to the clash, with both sides engaged in a tight first-quarter battle as the Suns took advantage of a strong breeze to the northern end.
Despite the conditions, Noah Gadsby provided an early spark for the Sharks, kicking two goals in the opening term to help Southport edge ahead by a point at the first change.
With both teams looking to break the game open, it was the second quarter that proved decisive.
Southport took complete control of the contest, piling on seven goals to one in a dominant display that swung momentum firmly in their favour.
Max Pescud was influential during the surge, kicking two goals for the term and providing a strong aerial presence, as the Sharks capitalised on their midfield ascendancy and forward efficiency to build a commanding lead at half time.
Following the main break, the Suns showed signs of resistance, but Southport’s midfield continued to assert its dominance.
Captain Jacob Dawson led from the front with a standout performance, finishing with 38 disposals, 14 clearances and two goals, while Boyd Woodcock (31 disposals, eight tackles, one goal) provided strong support through the contest. Alongside them, Noah Gadsby put on an outstanding performance with career high four goals and 18 disposals.
Despite kicking into the breeze, the Sharks maintained their momentum in the third term, extending their advantage heading into the final change.
In defence, Ryan Burton was composed across half-back with 26 disposals, while Jesse Joyce (20 disposals) and Max Spencer (10 marks) were strong in the air and reliable under pressure.
With the breeze at their backs in the final quarter, the Sharks finished strongly, snuffing out any late Suns challenge and putting the result beyond doubt.
Up forward, Max Pescud finished with 18 disposals and four majors. Hewago Oea was lively with 22 disposals and two goals, while Campbell Lake and Noah Casalini added two goals apiece in a well-rounded attacking display.
The competition will observe a league bye this weekend, as the Smithy’s VFL State team plays against the SANFL in an exhibition match at Glenelg for Gather Round.
The Sharks next fixture will be against Williamstown at DSV Stadium, on Saturday April 18 at 12:05am.
