The Seagulls’ 17.10 (112) to 8.18 (66) victory, was set up by a dominant third quarter.

The first half was tight, with six lead changes. Southport led by 11 points late in the second quarter, before the Seagulls kicked two goals in the last two minutes to lead by a point at halftime.

The Seagulls then went on to kick eight goals to zero in the third quarter to blow the game wide open.

The Sharks did have some opportunities in the third quarter, but only managed to kick four points, whilst the Seagulls made the most of their entries Inside 50.

Leading by 45 points at three quarter time, Williamstown added a further two goals before the Sharks finally kicked a goal seven minutes into the last quarter.

The Sharks managed another goal five minutes later, before the Seagulls kicked the last goal of the match.

After the game, Southport Coach Steve Daniel said, “It was a disappointing afternoon. I thought we fought hard for three quarters but for a quarter we were completely outplayed.”

“Williamstown are a quality side, and if you are just the slightest bit off, they will punish you and that is exactly what they did.”

Southport’s attention is now on their next game which is against Essendon on Saturday at 11:40 am at the NEC Hangar.
